Our faith journey is inherently creative. It involves trusting in the unseen, believing in the unimaginable, and stepping into the unknown with the assurance that God is with us. Similarly, creativity requires us to envision what does not yet exist, to bring forth new ideas, and to express our innermost thoughts and feelings in ways that inspire and transform.

“Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us.” (Ephesians 3:20, NKJV)

The Role of Mercy, Grace, and Love

Central to understanding this mystery is recognizing God’s immense mercy, grace, and love. Without experiencing His mercy and grace, and without knowing our identity in Christ, we remain blind to His divine plan and calling. It’s through a relationship with God, rooted in His love, that we gain insight into our purpose and the creativity He has instilled within us.

“But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved).” (Ephesians 2:4-5, NKJV)

Eternal Life: The Ultimate Creative Act

The promise of eternal life is the ultimate act of divine creativity. It is an invitation to participate in God’s eternal story, where every moment is infused with purpose, beauty, and meaning. This promise fills us with excitement and anticipation, knowing that our creative endeavors on earth are but a foretaste of the eternal creativity we will experience with God.

Embracing the Mystery

As we reflect on Ephesians 2:11-18 and Ephesians 3:8-13, let us embrace the mystery of faith and creativity. Let us marvel at the unimaginable ways God has worked and continues to work in our lives. And let us step boldly into our creative calling, knowing that we are part of His grand, eternal design.

“According to the eternal purpose which He accomplished in Christ Jesus our Lord, in whom we have boldness and access with confidence through faith in Him.” (Ephesians 3:11-12, NKJV)

Application in Our Lives as Christian Artists

As Christian artists, understanding and embracing this mystery can profoundly impact our creative process and purpose. Here are some practical ways to apply these insights into our artistic endeavors:

Recognize Your Identity in Christ:

- Know that you are God’s workmanship, created for good works. Your identity in Christ is foundational to understanding your creative calling. Seek a deeper relationship with God to uncover the unique gifts and talents He has placed within you.

Draw Inspiration from God’s Mercy, Grace, and Love:

- Let the themes of mercy, grace, and love permeate your work. Whether through visual arts, music, writing, or any other medium, let your creations reflect the profound love and grace you have received from God.

Embrace the Mystery:

- Approach your creative work with a sense of wonder and openness to the unknown. Allow the Holy Spirit to guide your imagination and creativity, trusting that God can do exceedingly abundantly above all you ask or think.

Create with Eternal Purpose:

- Remember that your creative efforts are part of a larger, eternal story. Infuse your work with purpose and meaning, knowing that it has the potential to inspire, transform, and point others toward God.

Collaborate and Unite:

- Just as Christ broke down the walls of separation, seek to build bridges and foster unity through your art. Collaborate with other artists, share your gifts with your community, and use your platform to promote reconciliation and understanding.

Boldly Express Your Faith:

- Do not shy away from expressing your faith through your art. Use your creativity to share the unsearchable riches of Christ with the world, bringing light to the mystery of the gospel.

In my journey to understand the concept of creativity within Christian faith, I recently embarked on a Bible course focused on the keyword “create” through Above Reproach Ministry. This study has shed light on the profound connections between faith and creativity, and how they intertwine as part of God’s divine mystery. By delving into Ephesians 2:11-18 and Ephesians 3:8-13, we gain a biblical perspective on how these elements come together in our lives.

Ephesians 2:11-18: Breaking Down the Wall

In Ephesians 2:11-18, Paul addresses the once insurmountable divide between Jews and Gentiles. The “wall of separation” that divided them has been broken down through Christ’s sacrificial love. Through His death and resurrection, Jesus created a new humanity, uniting both groups into one body, reconciled to God. This act of divine creativity was unimaginable—an extraordinary solution to a profound division.

“But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ.” (Ephesians 2:13, NKJV)

Ephesians 3:8-13: The Unsearchable Riches of Christ

In Ephesians 3:8-13, Paul speaks of the “unsearchable riches of Christ” and the mystery hidden for ages. This mystery, now revealed, is that through the gospel, Gentiles are fellow heirs, of the same body, and partakers of His promise in Christ through the gospel.

“To me, who am less than the least of all the saints, this grace was given, that I should preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ, and to make all see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the ages has been hidden in God who created all things through Jesus Christ.” (Ephesians 3:8-9, NKJV)

The Mystery of Faith and Creativity

The mystery of faith, as revealed in these passages, mirrors the mystery of creativity. Just as God revealed His divine plan to unite Jews and Gentiles, He also imparts to us the gift of creativity—an ability to bring forth something new and beautiful from the depths of our being. This creative spark is a reflection of His own nature, for we are made in His image.

“For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.” (Ephesians 2:10, NKJV)

Definition of ‘Create’: To bring something into existence; to cause something to happen as a result of one’s actions. In the context of faith, it refers to God’s act of bringing forth new life, purpose, and unity through His divine plan.

The Divine Pause: How Rest Fuels Creativity and Faith

The concept of rest is deeply embedded in the biblical narrative, starting with the very act of creation. In Genesis 2:2-3, we read, “By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work. Then God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done.” This divine rest holds profound lessons for us, particularly when it comes to creativity and faith.

The Divine Pattern of Rest

God’s act of resting on the seventh day sets a divine pattern for us to follow. It wasn’t that God needed rest in the way humans do; rather, His rest signifies completion and satisfaction in His creative work. This divine rest serves several purposes:

Reflection and Satisfaction

God paused to reflect on His creation, pronouncing it “very good” (Genesis 1:31). This act of reflection is crucial for creatives. Taking time to step back and appreciate our work allows us to see it in a new light, celebrate our achievements, and recognize areas for improvement. It nurtures a sense of fulfillment and encourages further creativity.

Sanctifying Rest

By blessing and sanctifying the seventh day, God established rest as a holy and essential part of life. For creatives, this highlights the importance of incorporating periods of rest into our routines. It is in these moments of rest that we can connect more deeply with our faith, recharge our spirits, and receive new inspiration from God.

The Intersection of Rest, Creativity, and Faith

Renewed Inspiration:

Rest is essential for renewing our creative energy. Just as the land needs to lie fallow to regain its fertility, our minds and spirits require rest to remain fertile ground for new ideas. During these periods of rest, we can seek God’s guidance, allowing Him to inspire and direct our creative endeavors.

Trust in God’s Timing:

Resting requires us to trust in God’s timing and provision. It is an act of faith to pause our work, trusting that God will sustain us and that our creativity will not diminish but rather be enhanced by rest. This trust can deepen our relationship with God, aligning our creative process with His divine rhythm.

Holistic Well-being:

God’s example teaches us the importance of holistic well-being. Balancing work with rest ensures that we maintain our physical, mental, and spiritual health. For creatives, this balance is crucial in preventing burnout and fostering a sustainable creative practice that honors God.

Practical Steps for Integrating Rest into Your Creative Life

Establish Regular Breaks:

Incorporate regular breaks into your daily routine. Short breaks during work and longer periods of rest weekly can help maintain your creative vitality. Consider setting aside a specific day each week for rest and reflection, following the pattern of the Sabbath.

Engage in Restful Activities:

Engage in activities that replenish your spirit. This could include prayer, meditation, reading Scripture, spending time in nature, or enjoying hobbies that bring you joy. These activities can provide fresh inspiration and deepen your connection with God.

Reflect on Your Work:

Take time to reflect on your creative work regularly. Celebrate your accomplishments, learn from your challenges, and seek God’s direction for your next steps. Reflection can lead to greater insight and more meaningful creative expression.

Prioritize Spiritual Practices:

Make spiritual practices a priority in your rest. Regular prayer, worship, and Bible study can nurture your faith and provide a solid foundation for your creativity. These practices remind us that our creativity is a gift from God, meant to be used for His glory.

God’s rest after creation is a profound example for us, highlighting the importance of rest in the creative process. By following His pattern, we can renew our inspiration, trust in His timing, and maintain our holistic well-being. Integrating rest into our creative lives is not only an act of faith but also a crucial component of sustaining and enhancing our creativity.

Why Do I Worry When God Is In Control of My Life?

Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV):

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

We call Him, Alpha and Omega. He knows the end from the beginning. So why is it difficult for us to trust Him fully? Often, we seek more advice from men than from God. Personally, I struggle with fully surrendering to Him. Despite knowing His power, when drastic situations arise, my first reaction is stress and worry. I aspire to reach a level where I can automatically trust in His control.

God as Our Creator

Isaiah 45:12 (NIV):

It is I who made the earth and created mankind on it. My own hands stretched out the heavens; I marshalled their starry hosts.

God, our Creator, has designed everything with purpose and precision. Recognizing this should help us understand that He has control over all aspects of our lives. Just as He intricately designed the universe, He has a detailed plan for each of us. When we acknowledge Him as our Creator, it becomes easier to trust in His plans and timing.

Worship Over Worry

When faced with challenges, our first response should be worship rather than fear or worry. Worshipping God acknowledges His sovereignty and aligns our hearts with His purpose.

Philippians 4:6-7 (NIV):

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

The Importance of Contemplation

Contemplation and meditation on God’s Word can transform our perspective. Reflecting on His promises and past faithfulness can strengthen our trust in Him.

Isaiah 65:24 (NLT):

I will answer them before they even call to me. While they are still talking about their needs, I will go ahead and answer their prayers!

This verse reminds us that God is so in control that He answers our prayers even before we voice them. Meditating on such promises can help us shift our focus from worry to faith.

Do Not Be Your Worst Enemy! When God Wants To Be Your Friend!

The opportunity is there, but for a strange reason, you are stuck! You can’t move forward! Or you are halfway through your journey like Peter in the Scriptures.

Peter’s Step of Faith

Matthew 14:22-33 (NIV):

Immediately Jesus made the disciples get into the boat and go on ahead of him to the other side, while he dismissed the crowd. After he had dismissed them, he went up on a mountainside by himself to pray. Later that night, he was there alone, and the boat was already a considerable distance from land, buffeted by the waves because the wind was against it.

Shortly before dawn, Jesus went out to them, walking on the lake. When the disciples saw him walking on the lake, they were terrified. “It’s a ghost,” they said, and cried out in fear.

But Jesus immediately said to them: “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.”

“Lord, if it’s you,” Peter replied, “tell me to come to you on the water.”

“Come,” he said.

Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!”

Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” he said, “why did you doubt?”

And when they climbed into the boat, the wind died down. Then, those who were in the boat worshiped him, saying, “Truly you are the Son of God.”

Peter’s story highlights the struggle between faith and fear. He started with faith, stepping out onto the water, but fear caused him to sink. This resonates with our creative journeys. Just as Peter’s faith allowed him to step out onto the water, our faith can empower us to pursue our creative passions. We begin with inspiration, but fear and self-doubt can cause us to falter. Artistic expression reflects God’s beauty and creativity, whether through painting, music, writing, or any other form. By embracing our unique talents and trusting in God’s guidance, we can overcome fear and self-doubt, becoming vessels of His grace and light in the world.

Embracing Faith Over Fear

Spirit lead me where my trust is without borders

Let me walk upon the waters

Wherever You would call me

Take me deeper than my feet could ever wander

And my faith will be made stronger

In the presence of my Savior

The bridge in the song “Oceans” by Hillsong United is my prayer from now on! I want to be able to move forward, to walk out of my comfort zone wherever God leads me, to have faith in Him and His plans for me, and not trust my inner voice of fear that’s stopping me from greatness anymore. I decided to be my best friend and not my enemy. It’s so easy to cheer your best friend! But what about yourself?

Empowering Declarations

I have found some declarations on the internet that I want to speak into my life and share with you:

I declare my Creator loves me and, therefore, love myself no matter what anybody else says or thinks about me (even myself).
I declare I was born an original and shall not live like a copy.
I declare that I walk by faith, not by sight. I declare my faith is a magnet that attracts the blessings of God to me.
I declare that I am blessed and highly favored of God.
I declare that no weapon formed against me shall prosper, every tongue that speaks against me shall be silenced, and my critics shall be proven wrong.
I declare the best is yet to come, as my life has only begun. My days are getting increasingly brighter, more beautiful, and more fruitful.
I declare that I will do my best in everything I do to give God glory. In Jesus’ name! Amen!

The Struggle is Real: The Inner Battles of the Flesh.

I am probably not the only one who experiences the battle between flesh and spirit. Especially after surrendering your life to Christ, this internal struggle is inevitable. Who wins this round? Have you fully surrendered to Him, or are there areas you try to keep hidden from God? Do your emotions interfere with your relationship with God and your pursuit of greatness?

Consider Jacob before he became Israel. Despite his deep connection with God and the prophecy he received, he feared his brother Esau. This fear led him to wrestle with God, signifying his struggle to fully trust and surrender.

Jacob’s Struggle with God

Genesis 32:24-28 (NIV):

So Jacob was left alone, and a man wrestled with him till daybreak. When the man saw that he could not overpower him, he touched the socket of Jacob’s hip so that his hip was wrenched as he wrestled with the man. Then the man said, “Let me go, for it is daybreak.” But Jacob replied, “I will not let you go unless you bless me.” The man asked him, “What is your name?” “Jacob,” he answered. Then the man said, “Your name will no longer be Jacob, but Israel, because you have struggled with God and with humans and have overcome.”

Jacob’s encounter highlights his transformation from a man who relied on his own cunning to one who recognized his need for God’s blessing. The physical struggle left him with a limp, a constant reminder of his dependence on God. This pivotal moment in Jacob’s life represents the internal battles we all face when learning to fully trust and surrender to God’s will.

Acts 5:39 (NIV):

But if it is from God, you will not be able to stop these men; you will only find yourselves fighting against God.

How often do we let stubbornness interfere with God’s plans? Jacob’s declaration, “I won’t let you go until you bless me,” signifies his recognition of the need for divine intervention. True transformation comes through struggles, and ultimately, God’s will prevails.

Do you know what God has planned for you? Do you seek His guidance about your future, or do you only turn to Him when your plans fail? Last year, I realized how much I had neglected seeking God’s guidance. Though my plans were good, they lacked His purpose. Moving forward, I strive to live a life aligned with His will.

Reflect on your own journey. Let the Holy Spirit guide you and use your creativity and gifts to honor God. Artistic expression, whether through painting, music, writing, or any other form, can be a powerful way to reflect His beauty and deepen your faith.
